Sloppy Joes are one of my favorite feed a crowd and are also a great make ahead meal. I tweaked this recipe from a cookbook, I think, to fit my family’s taste and even former sloppy joe haters had no problems devouring their dinners.
Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs of lean ground beef/turkey
- 1 small/medium onion or 1 -1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1.5 c ketchup
- 1/4 c water
- 2 tsp prepared mustard
- 2 T brown sugar
Directions:
Chop onion if using.
Brown meat in large skillet add onion and cook until translucent and soft. Season with salt and pepper.
Place in slow cooker.
Add water and ketchup.
Add mustard, sugar and onion powder if using.
Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low 4-5 hours or on high 2-3 hours.
Freezer instructions: Cool completely in refrigerator. Label container and freeze. When ready to use thaw in fridge overnight or until thawed. Heat in skillet over low heat until heated through. Serve.
