This is the roll recipe that really gave me the confidence to work with yeast. It is very hard to mess up and there is very little kneading. It’s a soft, slightly sweet, dense roll that can also be used as a cinnamon roll base.
Amazingly Easy Yeast Rolls
Easy yeast rolls that you can also use to make cinnamon rolls
Prep time: 60 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 5 teaspoons yeast
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
Cooking Directions
Heat milk, water, sugar and salt in a saucepan over low heat until warm (about 120 degrees), remove from heat and mix in the eggs and yeast. Place 5 cups of flour in a large lidded bowl. I usually use one of my slow cooker liners because I don’t have a bowl with a lid that’s large enough. Make a well in the center and pour in the warm liquid and yeast mixture. Do not stir.
Cover with the lid and let sit 20-30 minutes. Pour in the melted butter and mix well. Add flour if sticky until a soft but no longer sticky dough is formed. Knead several times. Place back into bowl and cover again with lid. Let the dough sit for another 20-30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Divide dough into 12-16 pieces depending on how large you want your final roll. Shape into balls and place on baking sheet(s) cover with a damp tea towel or a greased piece of plastic wrap and let rise 20-30 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes or until done.

I absolutely love the simplicity of this recipe. I love homemade yeast rolls, but don’t have the time or desire (lazy?) to make them! This sounds perfect!!!!! Will definately make these. Thanks for a simple easy recipe.
Yay, these came out great, and it was my first time ever baking bread!
Wonderful! I am so glad they turned out great.
Yeast and I have a checkered past, but my family loves yeast rolls and these seem so easy I’m going to try them out.
Great blog!
I can NOT seem to make yeast bread come out properly. Many, many packets of yeast have died as I have tried! This recipe looks very promising! I will let you know how it turns out! Thanks!
Easy=check. My problem: I made cinnamon rolls but didn’t want to bake till next morning. So I’ve been waiting for them to rise but its not happening. I guess this isn’t a refrigerate dough. It was still easy and will use it again.
Ok first thing in the morning i’m on it, and will let you know how well I did
I was told that my rolls were a lil heavy. How can I fix that? Other than that I did good for my first batch
I would try letting them rise a little bit longer after they have been shaped. Sometimes that helps.
Not done on the inside. Should I turn oven to 350
I’d try that and cover with foil to keep from over browning.
Do you mix in eggs and yeast together or seperate. What type of yeast do you use. I need all the details I can get. How do you know when you have kneaded the dough enough. I useed the cheap muffin pans from dollar store and now the bottom doesn’t burn, and I also turned over down to 350. They taste great, but not as light as I would like them
Can i use self rising flour? Its all i have on hand right now. Don’t want to waste it if i can’t use it. Thank you:)
Unfortunately you can’t substitute self rising flour for all purpose in the recipe.
