Batman Cake

22 Jun

Batman Cake

I’ve debated about posting this cake. I know it’s not perfect but I’m not a cake decorator by trade, I’ve never taken a class, and it was my first time working with fondant.  But it made the recipient over the moon happy so that’s all I care about.

I’m going to give you the general guidelines on how I did it in case you’d like to give something similar a try.

  • Your favorite cake made into 2 9” round layers
  • Your favorite buttercream icing
  • 1 recipe marshmallow fondant
  • Scissors
  • Paring Knife
  • Gel Icing Colors. I used Americolor Black and Lemon Yellow. I purchased them at Hobby Lobby.
  • Bat Symbol Template. I cannot remember where I found the one I used.
  • Cake board.

Follow directions for marshmallow fondant at the link I provided which is the same recipe I used. Bake cake and let cool. Prepare buttercream. Once cake has cooled frost as usual placing on a cake board.

Divide fondant into thirds. Color one third yellow. Divide 1/3 of remaining fondant in half and color black.  Cover a clean surface with powdered sugar. Roll out yellow fondant to 1/4 inch thick. Carefully roll like a pie crust and drape over cake, smoothing wrinkles. Trim to edge of cake with paring knife.

Roll black fondant out to 1/4” thickness on powdered sugar covered surface. Place template on fondant and cut with scissors. Place on cake. Cut out rectangles and place on cake as buildings. Add small yellow rectangles to simulate lit rooms.
